Watch This Terrace Beekeeper Demonstrate Some Tricks For Beginners

Rushing River Apiaries is a family-run business.

Getting started on beekeeping can be a daunting task. But a local beekeeper out of Terrace is hoping to make the transition a bit easier.

In a new video posted to YouTube, the Skeena-based Rushing River Apiaries shows “a hive inspection demo for beginning beekeepers.”

“In this video,” says Christine McDonald, who founded the apiary with her husband Tavis McDonald, “I inspect a 2 week old nuc and show some tips and tricks for handling frames, as well as what to look for in a new colony.”

Their YouTube channel is full of useful videos such as “swarm cell check”, “installing a nuc” and “making a split.”

Christine might seem like a pro, but she was once just starting out too.

“In 2016, we ordered two colonies of honeybees to add to our backyard garden,” reads the website for Rushing River Apiaries. “Our whole family quickly came to love working with the bees and harvesting honey and we decided to grow our new hobby into a small family business.”
